The Spirit of Christmas
I have nothing interesting to say because each day is just like the last. So here is a story sure to get you in the holiday spirit. My building is having a Christmas food drive and we're all supposed to donate a non-perishable food item. As I rummaged through my pantry trying to find the perfect thing to donate I was struck by brilliance! Two cans of Canada's finest Bravo spaghetti sauce. I'm sure you all appreciate the immense sacrifice on my part to make someone's Christmas a little bit brighter. Bless you!

When All Goes Wrong
So, g came to visit this weekend because we had tickets for 2 Smashing Pumpkins shows. They played at the Auditorium Theatre which is a beautiful concert hall built in 1889. The show was pretty good and Billy told some funny stories in between songs. The show opened with Jimmy Chamberlain playing an absolutely disgusting drum solo that I wish I got on camera. Billy wore an interesting combination of white Zero shirt, a man skirt, and high top sneakers. The show was pretty long so I ended up sitting at the end during a 20 minute Pink Floyd cover. Eep! Definite boy music but still neat to see. Here are some photos of the first show:

The next day I decided to dazzle g with a homemade chicken pot pie...It didn't exactly turn out as planned:

A little sad looking. We should have recognized it as an omen. We did eat the pie, then hopped on a bus to go to the second Pumpkins show. But, we got trapped in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade traffic which was like no other. We were at a standstill downtown right when the show was starting. So we got off the bus and started running down Dearborn, then snagged a cab, then ran to the theatre...only to find out that the show was cancelled because Billy was sick :( So I have a December 8 show to look forward to now. And lots of leftover pot pie.

Zzzzzzzzzz
I really have nothing to blog about at the moment but an imminent visit from g will soon fix this. But sorry for my absence, I know many of your lives hinge upon the hope that there is a new post from me when you wake up. Sorry to have thrown you into a black abyss of despair...
While you're waiting for my much anticipated Smashing Pumpkins post, let me ask my legions of readers: Does anyone have an extra poppy left over from Remembrance Day that they will kindly donate to me? This past November 11 I found out that Americans don't wear poppies (Who knew? Everyone? Oh...) and I want to wear one next Remembrance Day in Chicago. Thanks.

Photos from the Obamaphenomenon
So there is a recount for the Minnesota senate race and apparently we won't have the results for quite some time. While we're waiting, let's look at my some photos from Election Night. I don't think my pictures captured the size of the crowd I was caught up in but it's better than nothing:
Canadians from TO:

Getting into Grant Park was a snap despite the crowds:

Mr. President-Elect on the Jumbotron:

Getting out of Grant Park. Literally, every way I looked I just saw people. Every street downtown was packed and we were all pretty much headed to the subway. Ugh:

Good Job America
Thanks to everyone who told me to go to Grant Park tonight, I had a blast. My friend and I only had to wait 20 minutes MAX to get into the park and found that the crowds weren't too bad. We laid out my Bonnaroo blanket out on some grass in front of one of many jumbo trons to watch the election coverage. The view was great, we could hear everything that was said on CNN, and it wasn't packed in our area. The craziest thing: it was WARM. As in I, Skelena the Frost Queen, didn't even wear a coat!!
The weird thing was how anti-climactic it was to find out Obama was president. They had just called Virginia for Obama and we resumed talking about this and that. Then we heard clapping and cheering, looked at the screen and in little letters it said
"Obama president-elect." People were literally asking each other if he won! I didn't expect him to be elected so soon but we quickly caught on and joined in on the cheering.
I would like to add that when McCain mentioned Obama's name, the republican crowd booed. However, when Obama mentioned McCain, I honestly didn't hear ANY boos. Take from that what you will. I thought Obama gave an excellent speech, particularly the part about the 106 year-old woman who voted and his honestly that problems are not going to be solved overnight.
After watching Oprah dance around for a few minutes, we left with the masses. Despite there being literally people as far as the eye can see, there were no riots, running, pushing, nothing. We just shuffled along through the streets of downtown Chicago onto the subway and peacefully went home. Now let's just hope Al Franken can squeeze out a victory on Minnesota. It's looking tight...
I'll post pictures tomorrow. Stand by...

Party Over Here
Here's a long winded story about why setting the clocks back an hour is awesome. Last night I went to a spooky Halloween party. My friend and I went as 80s prom chicks and got decked out in two of the ugliest dresses ever (I'll post a picture when I get it from her camera). Picture hot pink nails, gigantic teased hair, and an inch of blush. In short, how I would love to look every day.
At about midnight we had to take our friend home who got wrecked, but since the night was still young we went to a local bar to continue drinking. Given that technically it wasn't Halloween anymore, we sorta stood out in our get-ups and got a number of comments. Regardless, the drinking began and continued until closing time. Or so we thought! With a few minutes to 2am we started packing up our stuff to go home when...the clocks went back! We had another hour to drink! It was like Christmas and my birthday all rolled into one. So we ordered another round (and another...) and good times were had by all. The end.
